Strategic English Language Arts for English Learners (6-12)
 Description
In this two-day institute, participants will learn how to effectively implement a strategic language arts program (double-block) for English learners to support higher levels of proficiency on the English language arts (ELA) and English language development (ELD) standards.  Participants will learn how to incorporate research- and standards-based instructional strategies to provide structured academic language practice that is directly linked to adopted ELA curriculum and the ELD portion of the adopted curriculum.  Of particular focus will be how to use students' strengths in listening and speaking to support the development of their reading and writing skills, all done within the context of teaching the ELA and ELD standards using the adopted curriculum.  Participants are asked to bring their teacher's edition(s) and instructional materials from their ELA program, including any ELD materials linked to the curriculum.  In addition, participants are asked to bring the California English Language Development Test (CELDT) data (overall level/score, as well as listening, speaking, reading, and writing levels/scores) for the English learners in their Strategic English language arts classes.
