This two-day workshop focuses on the new State Board of Education approved science and social science curriculum: The Education and the Environment Initiative (EEI).   The EEI curriculum is easy to implement, attractive to students with its beautifully designed units full of relevant and engaging information, and a wonderful way to help students answer the question: “Why should I care?”   •    Teaches specific science and social science standards to mastery. •    Educates students about their relationship with the environment. •    Increases environmental literacy in all California students (K-12). •    Prepares students to be informed decision makers. •    Encourages responsible stewardship of the earth. •    Advances tomorrow’s leaders in our changing economy.   Day 1 Learn about the wonderful new EEI curriculum in a fun and interactive workshop.  You will explore various curriculum units and take home your own DVD of the complete curriculum.   Day 2 You will receive your chosen grade level EEI curriculum unit, have the opportunity to plan how you will implement the curriculum, and build a collaboration with your colleagues and network for further student achievement.   The first 20 teachers to register will receive a printed class set of unit materials of their choice ($350 value).

A 10-week University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) course offered through Project DELTA focusing on fractions, integers, rational number operations, and geometric probability.  Participants will use a fraction area model to explore part-whole relationships, equivalence, and operations.  Other topics include fraction concepts with linear models, and linking fraction concepts to decimals and percents.   Prerequisite:Intermediate Algebra  (Please see http://www.math.ucla.edu/mcpt/ for more information, including individual unit summaries.)   Optional Credit - Participants can receive units from UCLA for salary advancement or apply towards a Supplemental or Subject Matter Authorization.  Completion of the course with a grade of C or better is required to receive units.  Make check payable to University of California, Los Angeles in the amount of $265 for the units.  This will be collected on the first night of the course.

This 3-hour course is designed for competent Excel users.  Students will learn how to create, modify and link charts.  They will also learn the various types of data that can be imported into Excel and exported into other office programs. RCOE will bill districts as per the service agreement at the rate of $65 per person (without certification) or $100 per person (with certification) or at the group rate (10 or more people) of $55 per person (without certification) or $90 per person (with certification).  Three hour classes are billed at $50 per person (without certification) or $65 per person (with certification) or at the group rate (10 or more people) of $40 per person.  There is never a charge for Galaxy training or for RCOE employees.
